Kelly Finneran on Winter/2014 Hair Trends

Are there any specific styles that clients have been requesting recently? If so, what are they and why do you think they are popular?

Long hair clients have been ready for a change and everyone is going shorter and sleeker overall. Flowy locks are being replaced with with long layers and shorter lengths landing below yet near the collar bone – that’s if they’re not quite ready to hit bobland (which many are). The wavy lob is definitely having a moment! The big thing going on right now is pairing your cropped cut with a statement making fringe – meaning it’s more blunt and less blended or angled into the hair. Everyone is feeling that they want to go edgier or at least bolder with their look, and because skirts are getting longer, the hair gets shorter to achieve a more polished, striking look after the beachy, boho hair season. Clients want to start fresh with hair that feels revived so this is a great time to lose length guilt-free.
