Makeup Guide for Valentine’s Day

Luscious, V-Day ready lips are all about “sweetheart” lip shades like red, pink, and peach.

Butterfly makeup artist Francesca Roman says, “The right red lip is all about a juicy hue of orangey red – something bright yet deep – a color that would make you think ‘cherry’ or ‘tomato.'” Keep lips looking fresh and avoid dark colors such as shades with plum or burgundy undertones. Bring out the pop of red even more by exactly matching your shade of nail polish to your perfect red lip, the pairing’s an accessory of its own!

With pinks, think soft over bright. Shades of petal pink make for a perfect feminine look without being overdone. Instead of choosing fuchsia, choose a pink that’s on the pale or nude side. Rose shades that don’t stray too far away from the natural pink coloring of your lips tend to work best. A fun way to reinvent the pink lip is by applying highlighter or light shimmery shadow to your cupid’s bow and also the center of your bottom lip, then finising with a bit of gloss. It’s such a beautiful way to accent the shape of your lips!

A peachy lip is great for those who don’t want to quite commit to wearing (and the maintenance touch-ups) of a red lip all night but are still looking for something fun and festive. Adding instant warmth to skin, we love this visually delicious shade. Stay away from too much shine or gloss with peach lips. Go matte if you can, or blend with your favorite untinted chapstick for a more dewy peach lip.
